A detailed look into the canvas bag of the tauchretter .
|
|
The Dräger tauchretter was stored and carried in a canvas bag called tassche mit reissverschluss , or pocket with
zipper .
The bag was made from a heavy canas material called sail cloth and could be a brownish color or this author has
seen a grayish color cloth , but as of yet never a yellow color bag . The bag was constructed of a single heavy layer of canvas
with a non magnetic zipper that went half way around the outer edge of the bag . The metal zipper was edged in a black material
and had the maker logo ZIPP on the metal zipper pull tab . Along one side of the bag was a flat single layer of tannish
brown leather . The handle was affixed on one side with 2 steel rivits and the other side was free sliding in an unpainted
steel retaining sleeve .
On the inside of the bag was a small canvas bag with a single steel closing snap on the
front of the flap . This small accessory bag was attached to the larger carrying bag by a small canvas web strap sewn into
the inside of the tauchretter bag . Half way down both sides of the interior and continuing all the way to the very bottom
of the bag is a tannish brown synthetic type of material . This synthetic material is very brittle and today can crack with
ease ! The purpose of this material is to act as a reinforcement so the metal parts of the tauchretter could not wear a hole
through the bag and also to act as some protection to the contents of the bag from objects hitting the outside of the carrying
bag . This lining was sewn onto the canvas and one can see from the outside , mid way down from the zipper a long horizontal
line running the entire length of the bag .
With the bag empty and flat the dimentions are approx. 380x370 , when the bag is fully loaded it is 300x300x120
mm .
